Disinfection is one of the most important directions of the complex of measures on controlling infectious diseases and pathogenic flora. Nevertheless, conventional disinfecting agents no more meet strict requirements to such products due to objective reasons. According to opinion of scientists of many countries, disinfectants based on nanoscale structures with wide range of biocidal properties will constitute the next generation.

It has been ascertained that silver nanoparticles are one of prospective disinfectants. They allow controlling not only such dangerous diseases as AIDS, legionellosis, bird flu and other non-typical pneumonia, hepatitis, tuberculosis, but also less dangerous, but widely spread ones causing much trouble to people - salmonellosis, intestinal and staphylococcus infections, including those caused by colon bacillus, etc. Microorganisms conform to impact of every antibiotic within 7 to 10 years. At the same time, no cases of conforming of microorganisms to impact of silver nanoparticles have been detected, because they attack microorganisms at several directions simultaneously.

Method of obtaining silver nanoparticles in colloidal solutions has been developed in the Institute for Nanotechnologies of International Conversion Foundation (INAT ICF). Production of these nanoparticles has been launched for large-scale application for the fist time in our country. Manufactured silver nanoparticles are marketed under "AgBion" trademark.

"AgBion" silver nanoparticles are intended:

  • as a disinfectant - for disinfecting rooms, furniture articles, equipment, etc.;
  • as a biocidal additive - for creating and manufacturing various materials and articles for sanitary and hygienic purpose with biocidal properties.

"AgBion" silver nanoparticles can be used as a disinfecting agent meeting the highest modern requirements. Besides, a variety of technologies allowing modification of conventional materials with silver nanoparticles (SNP) for imparting biocidal properties to them has been developed at the Institute.


Silver nanoparticles are manufactured by the Institute for Nanotechnologies of the International Conversion Foundation based on own patented technologies.

Forms of manufactured products:

Silver nanoparticles (SNP) are delivered in two forms:
  • concentrate of colloidal solution in organic solvent -
    (Technical Requirements 9392-002-44471019-2006);

  • concentrate of colloidal solution in water - "AgBion-2"
    (Technical Requirements 9392-003-44471019-2006).

State registration Certificate is obtained on "AgBion-2" silver nanoparticles (further - preparation) as a disinfecting agent and biocidal additive to paints (english text)



  • as a disinfecting agent - in the form of concentrates or water solutions за concentrates intended for:

  • for disinfecting rooms, furniture articles, sanitary technical equipment, water, etc.;
  • for prophylactic sanitary hygienic treatment of rooms and equipment;
  • protecting constructions, cellars, wooden buildings and constructions from rottenness and mould, etc.;
  • as a biocidal additive - in the form of a substance intended for creating and manufacturing novel materials, coatings and other kinds of products with wide range of biocidal properties. (Introducing "AgBion" silver nanoparticles in material volume or deposing them at the surface of articles allows imparting antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungi properties. It is confirmed with corresponding research).


 "AgBion" preparations are produced by biochemical synthesis method in the form of colloidal solutions of silver nanoparticles, which are stable in water phase, in various organic solvents (dodecane, octane) as well as in mixed type solutions (e.g., alcohol-water). Concentrates present a transparent brown-coloured liquid. Silver nanoparticles of 3 to 16 nm size stabilized by molecules of surfactant are its active component. "AgBion–1" и "AgBion–2" preparations have bactericidal, viricidal and fungicidal properties. Besides, they produce active negative impact upon fungi and blue-green algae (cyanobacteriae).

Nanoparticles keep stability and their biocidal properties in concentrates for two years or more if storage conditions are observed. It provides an opportunity of putting them into large-scale manufacturing of biocidal products, which are necessary at domestic as well at foreign markets.
Efficacy of "AgBion" preparations is confirmed by tests in leading Russian research organizations:
  • N.F. Gamaleya Research Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences;

  • A.N. Sysin Research Institute for Human Ecology and Environment Hygiene of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences;

  • Institute of Chemistry of Solutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences;

  • State Research Institute for Restoration;

  • Legionellosis Laboratory (National Center on Legionellosis of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, which is a Collaborating Center on Legionellosis of the World Healthcare Organization),

as well as in the Turkish National Laboratory.
Bactericidal effect of "AgBion" silver nanoparticles was studied at test-microorganisms:
  • Staphy1ососсus аureus (АТСС 6538);

  • Е.соli (АТСС 11229);

  • Pseudomonas aeruginisae (АТСС 15442);

  • Klebsiella pneumoniae;

  • Candida albicans (АТСС 10231);

  • Salmonella spp.;

Toxicity:"AgBion" preparatioins of silver nanoparticles refer to the class of non-toxic substances. They are not dangerous for man and animals and do not cause harm to environment. It is confirmed with studies at the Research Institute for Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and in N.S. Kournakov Institute of General and Non-organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Principle of operation

Features of "AgBion" preparations are that silver nanoparticles have spherical form and their size is 3 to 16 nm. Studies fulfilled by specialists of INAT ICF as well as of other organizations have demonstrated that particles of 9 to 15 nm size are most effective for exterminating disease-producing microorganisms.

"AgBion" silver nanoparticles attack microorganisms at several directions simultaneously. This is the reason for the fact that no cases of conforming of microorganisms to impact of silver nanoparticles were detected to date, whereas microorganisms conform to impact of every antibiotic within 7 to 10 years.

Comparison to analogues

Comparison of preparations based on silver nanoparticles manufactured in different countries, fulfilled in the Institute of Chemistry of Solutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences, demonstrated essential advantages of "AgBion" line preparations. "AgBion" preparations are distinguished for high stability. They keep their biocidal properties for two years or more, whereas its analogues keep workability for half a year or less.


  • They have high antimicrobial activity. In particular, they are capable to suppress microorganisms or their modified forms, which are the most adapted to external impact;

  • They have the full spectrum of antimicrobial effect (bacteria, viruses, fungi) and suppression of pathogenic micro flora (spores);

  •  They do not produce destructing impact upon materials of treated articles;

  • They have no chlorine containing components;

  • They ensure health safety of personnel and patients at recommended treatment regimes;

  • They are ecologically safe. They do not pollute environment with harmful chemical compositions.

All properties of "AgBion" preparations as well as materials modified with them mentioned above are confirmed with studies fulfilled by specialists of Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Federal Service on Supervision in the Field of Consumer Rights and Human Well-being Protection of Russian Federation, State Research Institute for Restoration, as well as leading institutes of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences – A.N. Proliferation of pandemic diseases is recognized to be one of the threats to mankind in 21st century. Traditional infestants of such diseases conform quickly to conventional medical preparations and disinfecting agents and become resistant to them due to mutation at genetic level. At the same time, modern science and industry have no time to react to these changes using traditional methods and technologies. A new direction of controlling infectious microorganisms - agents based on biocidal nanoscale particles of substances - develops in medicine and sanitary within the last ten years in response to this threat for mankind.
Scientists and physicians of USA, Europe, Russia, Japan, China and many other states have demonstrated that some metals in the form of nanoparticles are much more effective than all their conventional forms including ions. Unlike conventional agents, silver nanoparticles are universal: they сare capable to exterminate more than 600 disease-producing viruses, bacteria and fungi, whereas every antibiotic attacks up to seven kinds of them.


INAT ICF works actively to commercialize technologies of manufacturing biocidal materials and products created by its specialists using "AgBion" silver nanoparticles. In particular:
"Grishko"company, which is known all over the world and is specialized in manufacturing dancing shoes, has launched production of "Miracle" new ballet shoes model  with biocidal properties of lining and insoles in cooperation with INAT ICF. Technology of manufacturing antimicrobial paints with nanoparticles has been put into production and manufacturing pilot batches of water disperse biopaints for walls and ceilings under "Doctor Farbe" trademark as well a of ПФ-115 biologically active enamel has been fulfilled in cooperation with "QWIL Paints" plant   in the city of Belgorod. Varnishes and paints modified with silver nanoparticles are intended for painting various surfaces in public accommodation places, including medical and prophylactic, penitentiary, sport and other institutions and kindergartens. Paints protect human organism from biological impact of most widely spread species of bacteria, viruses and microbes. They promote reducing sickness rate of population as regards such diseases as various forms of flu, A hepatitis, acute forms of tuberculosis. They allow avoiding necessity of using harmful chlorine containing disinfecting agents. This line of new products of the plant was demonstrated at "MOSBUILD 2010" 16th International Construction and Interior Exhibition, which is the leading forum in the field of construction not only in Russia but also in Eastern Europe. It took place in Moscow Exposition Center in April 2010.
 Method of disinfecting treatment of sarcophagi in cellars of Arkhangelsky Cathedral of Moscow Kremlin has been developed and successful works have been fulfilled for exterminating mould and further biocidal protection in cooperation with State Research Institute for Restoration.
Technology of modifying details of food rubber used in milking machines with silver nanoparticles has been developed and approved in cooperation with All-Russia Research Institute for Electrification of Agriculture. Results of the work are useful for farms involved in milk production because they open the way to reducing sickness rate of cows as regards mastopathy and other diseases. Besides, basic technologies of modification of various fabrics, polymers, dressing and filtering materials with silver nanoparticles have been developed.

Household chemical products

  • AgBion disinfecting silver solution (500 ml and 1000 ml volume). Application: moist cleaning of rooms, disinfection of surfaces at work and at home by wiping (furniture, including kitchen furniture, gas and electric stoves, office equipment). Agent can be used in social service institutions, housing, communal and other services (consumer markets, communal objects, hotels, hostels, pools, bathrooms, saunas, barber’s shops, beauty shops, other public accommodation places), at food trade and public catering enterprises and in kindergartens.

  • Biocidal spray for sanitary and hygienic treatment of public accommodation places.

  • АgBion deodorant-spray for shoes (150 ml volume with diffuser). Application: shoes treatment, feet deodorant. It prevents initiation of unpleasant smell, freshens and protects feet from fungi diseases.

  • AgBion humid napkins (napkins soaked in silver nanoparticles solution). Application: moist cleaning and disinfection.
    Biocidal washing agent (500 ml and 1000 ml volume). Application: as an additive to washing agents for disinfection. It imparts biocidal properties to linen.

  • Biocidal additive to washing and cleaning agents.

  • "AgBion" - Spray disinfecting silver solution (100-200 ml volume with diffuser). Application: disinfection of household utensils (table surface, consumer electronics, office equipment, PC, personal hygiene utensils).
